"Yes, I'm still alive": An update on my recent activities.

[November 2009] Just a quick note on the recent 'silence' of my blog and twitter... As you might have read or heard, the last months I'm diving into MS CRM at a company called CRM Resultants. I'm having great fun working with a different technology in a different setting, but up to now I did not have a lot of time or material to blog (for those of you wondering if I told SharePoint goodbye; don't worry, I'll be back way before SP2010 hits final).

But things are slowly changing; I'm getting up-to-speed with CRM quite well, and we are now starting to put some cool ideas in practice. First of those is improving something I call the "Developer Experience". This is all about making the life of the developers more fun and in the same time improving overall quality and productivity. From my SharePoint experience I've got quite some knowledge on automating routines like packaging, deploying and testing. It is common sense that the more a developer can focus on building solutions instead of doing the manual routines, the more he will like his job and the more time he has to add value. Besides that, automating routines avoids manual errors and forces quality checks that are often skipped due to a tight schedule.

Everybody who has been in IT for a while knows I'm not talking about rocket science, tool suites like Team Foundation Server are even taking the whole concept to new levels. Automating routines has been around in IT at least as long as I am, and the same counts for quality improvement techniques. But it is still a lot of fun envisioning and putting those techniques in practice; continuously improving and leveraging the investment is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling practice. Small things like having rich CRM project-templates, automatic packaging and deployment and pre-build configuration and logging just make the job much more fun.

So that's my challenge with CRM for the next months. And that's where I hope to start off blogging again. In the meanwhile, if anything, just drop me an email and we'll get in touch!

Goodbye, Sander
